COURSE OVERVIEW
This in-person, immersive workshop is designed for creative sewists who are ready to create custom bedding pieces that actually fit their own home. With the expert guidance of Donna Cash, a nationally respected educator in the soft furnishings industry, you’ll learn how to measure, cut, sew, and finish a duvet cover, bed skirt, and pillow sham with techniques used by professionals.
You’ll leave with completed or near-completed projects that fit your actual bed and the confidence to create more on your own.
BEFORE THE WORKSHOP: PREP INSTRUCTIONS
To ensure your projects fit your own bed, you will receive:
- A Printable Measurement Guide
- A Yardage Calculator Worksheet
- A list of suggested fabric types for bedding
- Instructions on how to prepare fabrics for class
You’ll arrive prepared to cut fabrics, ready to dive in on Day 1.

SCHEDULE
DAY 1 – Sew Your Duvet Cover with Confidence
Morning:
- Welcome & workshop setup
- Review pre-class measurements and fabric prep
- Duvet layout, cutting adjustments, and seam allowances
- Strategies for directional prints & centered patterns
Afternoon:
- Sewing main panels and side seams
- Closure options: hidden zipper
- Pressing and topstitching techniques for a polished look
- By day’s end: Duvet cover assembled with closure nearly or fully installed.
DAY 2 – Create a Clean, Tailored Bed Skirt
Morning:
- Review your bed skirt measurements
- Skirt styles overview: tailored vs. gathered
- Marking and hemming the panels for a professional finish
Afternoon:
- Creating pleats
- Attaching skirt panels to platform or Velcro strip
- Handling lining, banding, and troubleshooting common issues
- By day’s end: Skirt panels hemmed, pleated/gathered, and attached.
DAY 3 – Master the Pillow Sham
Morning:
- Design decisions: flange or stitched border
- Cutting your sham for symmetrical and crisp corners
- Mitering flange corners
Afternoon:
- Seam construction and inserting closures
- Final pressing and review
- Show & tell with Q&A wrap-up
- By day’s end: Pillow sham completed with professional finish.
